A long history of collaboration between a network of pastors that seeks to impact communities and cities in Guatemala through the gospel and a local congregation, Iglesia Evangélica Misionera, located 90 km from Guatemala City, has crystallized in the birth of the Gloria Mijangos Biblical Institute. This has been a dream longed for by both organizations and their leaders, pastors Byron Velasquez and Ludyn Campos, who have focused in recent years on training new leaders to support church planting efforts in the various villages of the municipality of Santa Rosa.
Thus, finally, in July 2020, the launch of the Gloria Mijangos Biblical Institute was celebrated. The Institute’s main objectives are:
- To strengthen students in their spiritual walk as disciples of Jesus Christ.
- To help them reproduce other disciples of Christ so they can create a team focused on the planting of new churches in their communities.
One of the key areas of need that institute leaders have recognized is that of developing character in spiritual leaders. For this reason, Faithwalking Foundations has been implemented as part of the Institute’s curriculum to aid in developing the character of each student, as well as for their spiritual formation. The first group of students has already started their process with Module 1 of Faithwalking Foundations: Awareness Through Self-Discovery. A total of 9 students (6 women and 3 men) participated in this group. Most of them are bi-vocational ministers, working as farmers to sustain their families. The report from the Faithwalking facilitators (Byron Velasquez and Norma Cerritos) is encouraging.
It is important to mention the financial need in covering the basic costs of facilitating Faithwalking for these future church planters. Each module has a cost of $30 per participant (the total cost of each module for the 9 participants is $270). We pray for God’s provision to sustain these efforts in Guatemala. Please join us in prayer.
